On the 24th of June 2006 Villa San Michele will exceptionally be the host for the congress:

“Linnaeus and his inheritance - 300 years from his birth”.

Bayer Garden, Grandi Giardini Italiani and Villa San Michele have decided to celebrate the Swedish physician and botanist Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778), founder of the modern botany, in sight of his 300th anniversary, with a number of special events. The Italian celebration will anticipate the official celebrations in Sweden and England 2007 to avoid the overlapping with the planned events there.

The aim of this scientific conference is to delineate the character of Linnaeus and his influence on Italian botany, an argument that, in spite of it's major importance, is nowadays little discussed in Italy.
Villa San Michele, the seat of the Swedish San Michele Foundation in Italy, will exceptionally be the host for this event to celebrate this remarkable personality of the Swedish culture.

Speakers:

Giovanni Cristofolini, University of Bologna, Italy.
Alessandro Minelli, University of Padova, Italy
Riccardo Motti, University of Napoli, Italy
Bengt Jonsell, University of Uppsala, Sweden
Gina Douglas, Linnean Society of London, UK
Walter Lack, Botanischer Garten Berlin
